SDSMA President Lucio N. Margallo II, MD
Lucio N. Margallo II, MD, became the 141st president of the SDSMA on June 3, 2022. He has been an active member of the SDSMA since 1994.Dr. Margallo is an internal medicine physician at Avera Medical Group Mitchell and has been involved in the leadership of organized medicine for many years. Prior to becoming SDSMA president, he held offices on the SDSMA’s Board of Directors. While serving on the SDSMA Policy Council, Dr. Margallo represented the District 6 Medical Society. He also served as president of the District 6 Medical Society. Dr. Margallo is past chairman of the SDSMA PAC, serves on the SDSMA Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the American Medical Association.
During the state legislature, Dr. Margallo has volunteered for the SDSMA’s advocacy efforts by participating in the Doctor of the Day program in Pierre. In addition to his work with the SDSMA, Dr. Margallo has been actively involved in the Mitchell community for many years in numerous volunteer capacities. He is a Dakota Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame Award recipient, a recipient of the Children’s Champion Award – Abbott House, and recipient of the SDSMA Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Margallo received his medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, the Philippines, and completed his residency through the University of South Dakota (USD) Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is a clinical assistant professor at USD Sanford School of Medicine.
