SDSMA President Denise S. Hanisch, MD
Denise S. Hanisch, MD, became the 142nd president of the SDSMA on June 2, 2023. She has been an active member of the SDSMA since 1998.
Dr. Hanisch is a family medicine physician and has been involved in leadership in healthcare for many years. Prior to becoming SDSMA president, she held positions on the SDSMA’s Board of Directors, Policy Council, committees, her local district medical society, and is a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Hanisch is also a graduate of the SDSMA’s Health Leadership Institute. During the state legislature, Dr. Hanisch has volunteered for the SDSMA’s advocacy efforts by participating in the Doctor of the Day program at the state capitol in Pierre.
Dr. Hanisch received her medical degree from the University South Dakota School of Medicine, and completed her residency with the Sioux Falls Family Medicine Residency Program. She is a clinical assistant professor of family medicine at USD Sanford School of Medicine.
