Membership Categories

The diverse membership of SDMGMA is comprised of administrators, CEOs, physicians in management, board members, office managers and many other management professionals from medical practices and ambulatory care organizations of all sizes and types. This includes integrated systems, hospital and medical school-affiliated practices.

ACTIVE

Active membership is held by an individual who is directly employed in management or administrative support service by an entity formally organized to provide or facilitate the provision of healthcare services; by an individual employed by a management organization, hospital/hospital system, practice management firm or other business entity responsible for managing any operational component(s) of an entity providing healthcare services.  This includes consultants who are responsible for operations of one or more practices on an ongoing basis; by healthcare providers/clinicians who hold an active license in the state are also considered active members.  

ALLIED

Allied membership may be held by any individual employed by a medical group practice to provide direct operational support to that medical practice (clerical and clinical support staff, coders, billers, IT, recruiters, etc.). Allied membership may also include a faculty member or representative of a non-group practice organization who is otherwise involved in health care through professional societies and health care systems. Allied membership may be held by any individual who has achieved ACMPE or FACMPE certification status. Allied membership may also be held by any individuals in career transition who wish to maintain industry knowledge and insight.

AFFILIATE

Affiliate membership may be held by any individual not directly employed by a medical group practice that provides supplies, products, or services to medical group practices  (consultants, third-party payers, supply and service vendors, non-employed medical group practice support staff).

STUDENT

Student membership may be held by an individual who is pursuing a healthcare or business-related degree at an accredited institution of higher learning and does not qualify for any other member category.  A student member cannot vote or hold office, but is allowed to be active and/or chair a committee or subcommittee per Board approval.

LIFE

Life membership may be held by any individual who permanently retires from working directly or indirectly with the administration or support of medical group practice and who has been an active, allied, or affiliate member of the SDMGMA for at least 10 years.  Life membership will be conferred upon those qualifying members by recommendation of the membership at one of its duly constituted semi-annual meetings and to be approved by a majority of those voting members present.
