Christopher T. Dietrich, MD

Christopher T. Dietrich, MD, became the 137th president of the SDSMA on June 1, 2018. He has been a member of the SDSMA since 2005. 

Dr. Dietrich is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. He practices at The Rehab Doctors in Rapid City. Dr. Dietrich has been involved in the leadership of organized medicine for many years. Prior to becoming SDSMA president, he held offices on the SDSMA’s Board of Directors and has served on the SDSMA Policy Council and several SDSMA committees including the Committee on Medical Practice, Committee on Pain Management & Prescription Drug Abuse, and Governance Task Force. He also served as vice president of the Black Hills Medical Society.

Dr. Dietrich has volunteered for the SDSMA’s advocacy efforts during the state legislature by participating as a volunteer lobbyist, and currently serves on the state’s Opioid Abuse Advisory Committee. He served as chair of the SDSMA’s Committee on Medical Marijuana, where he oversaw the publication of the SDSMA’s white paper on marijuana.

Dr. Dietrich grew up in Huron and received his medical degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He completed his residency and specialty training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic where he was chief resident and is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Dietrich has special interests in pain medicine, sports medicine and interventional pain procedures. He is also certified by the Titleist Performance Institute as a golf medicine and fitness evaluator. He is the medical director for the Rapid City Rush, The Rapid City Concussion Project, and a physician for the U.S. Ski Team.
