The South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA) is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as the South Dakota accreditor of intrastate CME providers. In accordance to ACCME criteria, the SDSMA's Committee on Medical Education sets standards and guidelines for the accreditation of CME providers and accredits organizations providing CME activities for physicians in South Dakota and its contiguous borders.

“The South Dakota State Medical Association is recognized by the ACCME as the South Dakota accreditor of intra-state CME providers.

In accordance with ACCME criteria, SDSMA’s Committee on Medical Education sets standards and guidelines for the accreditation of CME providers and accredits organizations providing CME activities for physicians in South Dakota and its contiguous borders. These standards are called the “SDSMA Essential Areas and Their Elements.”

SDSMA’s standards must be compatible with Essential Areas, Elements, Criteria and Policies of the ACCME, but need not be identical.

  • Upon request for clarification, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provided the ACCME with a response about the application of Stark II regulations and CME that is delivered in the hospital setting.  For that clarification, please click here or visit the ACCME’s website at www.accme.org.
