Membership Overview and Welcome
The SDSMA knows how difficult it is to practice medicine in today's health care environment. That's why the SDSMA offers a wide array of benefits and services that help improve the practice of medicine for more than 1,600 physician members and their staffs.

You can help shape medicine's future in South Dakota by serving on a committee of the SDSMA. Serving on an SDSMA committee is an excellent way to become involved and help promote the Association. SDSMA also appoints special task forces as needed -- such as our task forces for Medicaid, the State Employee Health Plan, and Tobacco Control and Preventions.

As a member, each month you will also receive an issue of South Dakota Medicine, the journal of the SDSMA, which features peer-reviewed scientific articles, special features and a "Member News" section that details important topics that are currently impacting the way you practice medicine in South Dakota.
You will also receive the SDSMA's E-News, a bi-monthly e-mail newsletter that acts as a supplement to the journal's "Member News" section. E-News provides you on-time and important information in an easy-to-download, interactive PDF format. Simply click on one of the newsletter's many links to access even more information.
As part of its advocacy efforts, the SDSMA also produces a weekly e-mail news bulletin during the South Dakota State Legislative Session. In Session is sent to members each Friday, and it details what happened during the legislative week as well as a look ahead to impending issues. In Session features the Bill Tracker system, which allows you to quickly and easily link to the state's Web site where you can view exactly what is going on in Pierre. In Session also provides you with "Action Alerts!" when pertinent so you can voice your opinion directly to legislators on topics of particular interest to South Dakota's patients and the physicians who serve them.
All of the SDSMA's member-specific publications are also made available online for your convenience so you can have access to them at a moment's notice.
